Georgia Mae Janssen of Canon Lodge Care Center in Canon City, passed away August 21, 2011, at the age of 80. She was born February 22, 1931 in
Buck Grove, Iowa to John Fritz and Marie (Jensen) Janssen. She lived in Iowa until the age of 5, when her family moved to Canon City, CO. The trip from Denison, Iowa, in January 1937 took 5 days traveling in a Model-T Ford. Georgia attended McKinley, Harrison, and Lincoln Elementary school, and graduated from CCHS in 1950.
She loved to travel and enjoyed many scenic tours throughout the northeastern states and Alaska. Georgia worked at the old Colorado Hospital, Valley View Nursing Home, and other local care centers in the kitchen and laundry services. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and previously St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where she was confirmed. She also belonged to AARP, and Golden Age Center, where she did volunteer work.
Georgia is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Patti Janssen; and sister and brother-in-law, Henrietta and Joe Chess.
Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m., prior to Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 25, 2011 at St. John’s Lutheran Church at 790 Greydene in Canon City.
Interment will follow at Mountain Vale Memorial Park at 1700 Chestnut.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
